CEEC Energy Storage Project Success Case: Indonesian Mountain PV-Storage Integration Drives Green Energy Transition

Operational Impact‌

  • Green Energy Supply: The project generates approximately 93 GWh of clean electricity annually, meeting part of the new capital’s energy demand while reducing CO₂ emissions by 104,000 tons per year.
  • Economic Benefits: The ESS balances peak and off-peak loads, reducing grid pressure and lowering local industrial/commercial electricity costs by around 15%.
  • Global Benchmark: As Southeast Asia’s first mountain PV-storage integrated project, it sets a replicable model for green energy practices in Belt and Road countries and deepens China-Indonesia collaboration in renewable energy.

By leveraging technological innovation and scenario-based planning, CEEC has established the Indonesian IKN project as a global benchmark for mountain PV-storage integration. This case highlights CEEC’s leadership in Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and demonstrates Chinese enterprises’ commitment to advancing global carbon neutrality through green technology.

Project Context

As the initiator of the“21st Century Maritime Silk Road”, Indonesia has been actively promoting energy structure transformation to achieve carbon reduction goals. With the construction of its new capital, Nusantara (IKN), there is an urgent need to establish a stable and clean energy supply system. Against this backdrop, CEEC Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation), in collaboration with Zhejiang Thermal Power Indonesia PT, undertook Indonesia’s first mountain PV-storage integrated project—the IKN 50 MW Ground Photovoltaic and 14 MWh Energy Storage System (ESS). This project is not only a core component of green energy supply for the new capital but also a landmark cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
